A recent wave of executions of political prisoners in Iran has raised serious concern about the welfare of political prisoners. In this post by Transparency Lab, we discuss two important sets of issues. First, we focus on some of the significant violations of defendants’ rights in the pre-trial investigation phase and during the trial. In the second part, we focus on the law itself, especially those articles that are used to issue the death penalty to political prisoners.
